Store description
The bookshop is in a former Primitive Methodist Chapel in the centre of Westleton, opposite the post office stores and backing on to the duck pond. I moved here in 1977 and have been selling books since 1982, and it has become a favourite destination for many visitors to the area. Since 1999 I have been listing a small part of my stock online, through abe and my own website at chapelbooks.com . We are open 7 days a week, 12 to 5, often longer in summer, and with rare exceptions in winter. We welcome telephone enquiries: try at any time - we are often here outside shop hours. There are more than 10,000 books on the shelves, in all subject areas, from 50p to £100, with rarer books in reserve. We also sell vinyl (LPs). We regret that access for wheelchair users is limited. The premises are unheated. The turning to Westleton is about quarter of a mile north of Yoxford on the A12. Buses are rarely seen here. The nearest rail station is Darsham (3 miles). People have been known to look for us in Saxmundham: it is our 'post town' but it is 7 miles away. With Aldeburgh to the south and Southwold to the north, this area is rich in a quiet and unmountainous beauty, excellent walking and cycling country. Heathland, forest, and the RSPB reserve at Minsmere are on the doorstep. The lost city of Dunwich is 3 miles away: as, at present, is the North Sea which took it.…
