"This 5.25 x 7.0 inch, 224 page hardcover book is a 1873 edition by George A. Crofutt with the title page indicating maybe "Fifth Vol. Fourth Annual Revised." This copy is in very good condition with definite time and handling wear showing to the brown cloth over boards covers with gilt titling … "Crofutt s Trans-Continental Tourists Guide" titling on the front panel. The spine of this copy shows sunning discoloration and there is no titling showing on the spine. The binding is still firmly intact and square … with only very modest rubbing to the edges and corners of the binding. The interior shows penciled previous owners names on the ffep and then the text pages show time wear. Half of a page is torn away and missing following the general index at the front of the book … and then at the very end of the book … there are four pages of advertisements and the first page has two, two-inch holes in the page. The text pages are in at least very good condition. The four fold-out maps are all present but show considerable handling and time wear … with tearing to some of the map folds … but the maps are all present and still securely anchored to the binding. The text is supplemented by numerous black-and-white lithographic illustrations and the information about the landscape and is fascinating in the informational coverage.".
