Some shelf wear and tear to unclipped DJ, corners lightly bumped, slight grime to boards. ; Cream cloth boards with faded gilt lettering to front cover and spine. Translated from the original Lithuanian by Milton Stark. DJ arkwork by S Makarevicius. ; B&W Illustrations; 338 pages; First Lithuanian novel to be translated into English. In 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland from the west, the Soviet Union also invaded from the east and in the process absorbed the previously independant Baltic republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Kreivenas welcomed the arrival of the Soviets as economic and social saviours but the next few years will see his hopes and dreams turn to doom.
