About this Item
Designed to Accompany the Crown Circuit Companion Dogherty, Thomas. The Crown Circuit Assistant, Being a Collection of Precedents of Indictments, Informations, Convictions by Justices, Inquisitions, Pleas, And Other Entries in Criminal and Penal Proceedings, Together With an Alphabetical Table to the Statutes Relating to Felony, Brought Down to the Twenty-Sixth Year of His Present Majesty King George the Third. London: Printed for P. Uriel. and E. Brooke, 1787. vii, [1], 551, [1] pp. Octavo (8-1/4" x 5-1/4"). Recent imitation morocco, lettering piece and blind rules to spine, endpapers added. Moderate toning to interior, light foxing in a few places. $350. * First edition. Dogherty, a member of Clifford's Inn, designed this book to accompany the popular Crown Circuit Companion (first edition 1738). "The work intitled 'The Crown Circuit Companion' had doubtless been of considerable utility, but it is notwithstanding well understood that the gentlemen attending the Circuits and Quarter-Sessions have long been desirous of some further assistance, as to the forms of criminal proceedings. An attempt therefore to be of use in this particular, the compiler trusts, will excuse his presumption in offering the present collection to the public" (v-vi). A Dublin reissue was published in 1788. English Short-Title Catalogue T96468. Seller Inventory # 73328
