Octavo. Limited to 59 numbered and registered copies. The present copy is not numbered. Illustrated in color and in black and white. The Crown Diamond was written during the Sherlock Holmes revival after the war, which was partly inspired by the new Stoll films. It was first performed at the Bristol Hippodrome on 2 May 1921, and then in London at the Coliseum on 16 May 1921. Conan Doyle, the "literary agent" for Dr. Watson, is given credit for having written "The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone," an adaptation from Dr. Doyle's one-act play "The Crown Diamond," and for the flashback in "A Study in Scarlet". The stories are usually referred to as the Sacred Writings (The Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, (Third Quarter, 1970, Vol. 64, No. 3, pp. 323-355). It had never been put into print until now when the Baker Street Irregulars undertook printing in a limited edition of 59 copies. Issued in 32 unnumbered pages. Very scarce. A fine copy bound in ¼ black pebble grained leather over red paper covered boards, paper label lettered in black. spine plain, in original acetate jacket. [ref: De Waal, R.B.
