Item description from seller

SCARCE INSCRIBED FIRST EDITION in pictorial maroon fabricord with gilt illustration and titling, inscribed to Tom Eastman by the author, frontis. illustration of Crazy Horse *who was never photographed) by the author's wife, illuatrations, folding map, 96pp. (+ several unpag.). Luther mention. Dowd #69. O'Keefe #186. Very Good+ with a whisper of wear at tips, frontis. page stretched at gutter, map dog=eared at edge. Mainly a biography of Crazy Horse but includes a chapter on the Little Big Horn battle that relates the account of the Brule Sioux Foolish Elk. The author, a Brule Sioux himself, was not a participant in the battle, but wrote from the Indian perspective. Bordeaux's grandfather,James Bordeaux, was an early French fur trader who carried on trade with the Sioux and white immigrants when the virgin prairies of the West were still an open frontier. This is the true first edition - not the later reprint in black cloth in 1952. This first edition was published circa 1944.
