About this Item
First U.S. edition. A comet causes elements in earth s atmosphere to bathe humanity in feelings of love and goodwill. So much so that by the end of the novel promiscuity ensues causing, at the time, a backlash against Wells among those who concerned themselves with the preservation of "public morals." 8vo blue cloth boards with light blue lettering and design; title page a cancel, as called for; 378 pages. Good to about very good with light rubbing to spine ends, corners, and spine lettering, faint damp stain to upper inner hinge paper, and rear endpaper darkened with small chip at bottom inner hinge.
