FIRST EDITION 1787, Italian text, 8vo, approximately 190 x 135 mm, 7½ x 5¼ inches, very small printer's device on title page, 1 small diagram in the text, folding engraved plate at rear with 13 images connected with wine making including sections of fruit, measuring and other implements, pages: 264 including title page, author's preface and brief printer's message to the reader on the final page, bound in full modern wine coloured morocco, gilt lettered label, gilt lettering and decoration to spine between raised bands, small gilt bunch of grapes to upper cover, gilt rules to edges of covers and small blind image of grapes to each corner, new pale brown endpapers. Pages untrimmed with a few slightly ragged edges, not affecting text, small closed tear to 1 upper margin, 5 mm (¼"), dark spot to fore-edge margin on page 129, occasional faint brown stains to outer margins, not affecting text. A good copy. The work consists of chemical experiments and observations on fermentation, plus methods of producing and preserving wine.
