Presumed first edition (per publisher's "Issued June, 1907 statement upon copyright page). Paged as [6], 13-122. Hardcover: H 22.25cm x L 14.5cm. Lacks dust jacket. Red cloth lightly soiled; front board decorated with centerpiece color pictorial paste-on and bright gilt stamping; a few stains and discolored patches to front board and at board edges; small cloth loss at frayed spine head; spine's gilt stamping remains fairly bright. Gilt top edge. Floral patterned endpapers in mauve, gilt, and white. Seven-line non-authorial ink gift inscription on front flyleaf; some foxing to interior pages; several leaves creased/nicked at their top fore-edge corners. Four color plates (including frontispiece) with captioned tissue guard sheets on unpaged leaves; "Illustrations" list on page [5] cites two incorrect page numbers which might an issue point. DEVOTA was Augusta Evans Wilson's last novel and met with less success than her popular antebellum and postbellum works "Inez" (1850), "Beulah" (1859), "St. Elmo" (1866), and "Infelice" (1875). {Lit-Shelf#1}. …
