Early neat inscription on the ffep: "The Proprty of the Female Reading Society, Upper Beverly" nad with another inscription beneath in a different hand: "Bought at auction/ paid 20 cts." Elizabeth Rowe [nee Singer] (1674-1737), English poet and novelist, was born in Somerset. At her request, her letters and manuscripts were edited, and posthumously published, by noted hymnographer Isaac Watts; they were first published in London in 1738, and in Boston in 1742, and widely reprinted.
