First impression of the first UK edition. Comprising four novellas, or short-stories, each set in a season as follows: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (Hope Springs Eternal); Apt Pupil (Summer of Corruption); The Body (Fall from Innocence); The Breathing Method (A Winter's Tale) + Afterword by the author. ***Near fine in black cloth-covered boards with silver titles to the spine. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine just slightly creased, otherwise no bumps or creases. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges clean. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. No foxing. Pages clean. Please note that there is a light vertical production crease to the front free endpaper, and some creasing to the bottom corners of a few pages near the end of the book, but no serious creases or tears. (please see scans) ***In a near fine illustrated dustwrapper which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £8.95 net. The dustwrapper has very few faults - just some surface rubbing at the bottom edge of the spine and front panel. No creases, chips or tears. Slight fading to orange of the red titles on the spine - otherwise no obvious fading. Dustwrapper crisp and bright. ***240mm x 155mm. 560 pages including an author's Afterword at the back of the book. ***'In "Different Seasons" the grand master of the supernatural chillingly turns his attention to the all-too-natural horrors we create for ourselves - and those around us. Readers will find in these four remarkable novels the uniquely distinctive King brand of driving narrative, graphic characterisation and stamp-on-the-clinging-fingers cliff-hanger plot they have come to expect. And if these stories have an interlacing of horror after all, this lies not in the occult but in the ever-growing dark corners of our century - a time for which Stephen King is the ideal chronicler.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper). ***First impression of the true first UK edition, complete in the original dustwrapper, in extremely nice bright condition. Quite a scarce Stephen King title to find now in first edition, and containing the filmed story "Shawshank Redemption". ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…

Review
These first three novellas have been made into well-received movies: "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" into Frank Darabont's 1994 The Shawshank Redemption (available as a screenplay, a DVD film, and an audiocassette), "Apt Pupil" into Bryan Singer's 1998 film Apt Pupil (also released in 1998 on audiocassette), and "The Body" into Rob Reiner's Stand by Me (1986).
The final novella, "Breathing Lessons," is a horror yarn told by a doctor, about a patient whose indomitable spirit keeps her baby alive under extraordinary circumstances. It's the tightest, most polished tale in the collection. --Fiona Webster
