Small Octavo, [5], 244 pages. In Very Good minus condition. Rebound in late 19th to early 20th century with brown leather half-binding and tan cloth. Paneled spine with gilt lettering and ornamentation. Boards have gilt trim to leather; light rubbing wear to extremities; light bumping to fore corners; small white marks to rear board; light scuffing throughout. Text block has speckling and light discoloration to edges; marbled endpapers; numbered label on front pastedown; cracking to front hinge; embossed stamp to second rear free end page; light penciling to front free endpaper; George R. Brush, M.D. stamp and ink inscription to title page, with creasing to top corner; light penciling to page [5] [slightly impacting text]; scant pencil marginalia to some pages throughout; light foxing and age toning throughout. Shelved in Room F. Samuel Bard (1742-1821) was an American physician whose accomplishments ranged from founding the first medical school in New York City (now known as Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons,) serving as family physician to George Washington's household, describing the disease diphtheria, and authoring the first textbook on Obstetrics published in America.
