Octavo, pp. [iii-vii] [viii] [1] 2-343 [344: blank] + 32-page publisher's catalogue dated "Sept. 1896" inserted at rear, title page printed in orange and black, publisher's decorated burgundy cloth, front panel stamped in gold and blind, spine panel stamped in gold, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed, floral patterned endpapers. First edition. Psychological thriller involving a family curse and psychic powers. Dr. Rumsey is a brain specialist. "Meade's bibliography exhausts the most enthusiastic bibliographers. In each of the genres she worked in she produced more than enough for several ordinary writers ." - Kemp, Mitchell and Trotter, Edwardian Fiction, p. 276. Hubin (1994), p. 566. Spine lean, cloth worn at edges and rubbed along outer joints, spine panel darkened and gold stamping dull, half title leaf missing if published with one, a sound, good copy. A very scarce book.
