About this Item
In a Black Half Leather binding - spine and corners - over textured light brown cloth which has some staining front and back. Flat gilt bands to the spine with a blind stamped decoration in 5 compartments. A red leather title label with gilt lettering/titling to the second to top compartment. The book has a little rubbing to the corners/edges but overall is quite handsome and looks good on the shelf. All Hinges tight. Page edges marbled, but faded. Appears to be a book which is lightly shelfworn with age but having seen little actual use. No date given, but the latest textual reference I can see is 1878, so 1880 would be somewhere near the publication date. Internally it has attractive marbled endpapers. With a former owner's name and address - a Farmer in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire - neatly written on the second free front endpaper. Some very light and scattered foxing (pale lemon-tan spotting) and the odd small mark on an occasional page, but overall internally Very Clean. (xxii) + 570 pages, including Index, but PLUS 25 full-page unpaginated lovely Chromolithographs (colour printed) , including the frontispiece. Also many b/w wood-engraved illustrations in the text. An Introduction by the author and 37 chapters, covering all aspects of Dairy farming, including Breeds, Care of Cows, Calving, Soils, Manuring, Hay-making, Cheese and Butter-making, Condensed milk, Dairy-Farming in Ireland, America, Canada and the Continent, plus Pigs, Goats and Poultry, and the Commerce of the Dairy. This book is overweight and MAY require extra postage for International buyers only, depending on your location. Please ask if unsure. A lovely period book.
