In this one, Alvarez is assigned the case of a death due to a car accident, but the case is more complicated than it seems. 182 pages, 5-1/2" X 8-1/2". The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped, jacket has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Jacket has a small horizontal crease at the top right front corner, some edge wear at the fore edges, smal dot of a smudge just to the right of the car. Sturdy hardcover boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or worn, no edge wear. Edges of the text block are clean. There is a former price and a date written in ink on the first flyleaf page. No former ownership marks, no further writing besides that price and date. Binding is tight and square. Not a remainder, not a library discard copy. Self-indulgent and long-suffering, sleepy on the outside, sharp as a tack within, the warmhearted Inspector Alvarez is as complicated and admirable as his detective work.
