Collection of verse written to approximate the accented English of French-Indian voyageurs and coureurs du bois, or, as the author states in his introductory note, "half-breed Indian guides." The Francophone pronounciation is represented in the orthography, so interdental fricatives (th-sounds) are written as "d," final consonants are dropped, and the sound of "er" in "water" is made long: "An' den dere air de rapides.
