First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 318pp + xxiv + [iv] publisher's catalogues at the rear. Blue cloth lettered and ruled in gold at the spine with a gilt-stamped border and vignette to the upper board, and a blind-stamped border to the rear board. With a title page decoration and tissue protector. Cloth a little rubbed at the extremities and the title page tissue browned. Finger marks to occasional leaf margins. A very crisp and bright copy. Buchanan's first prose work, chiefly a biography of his friend and fellow poet David Gray (who died at the age of 23), but also including an early British appraisal of Walt Whitman.
