The first edition of American mystery writer Helen Reilly's final novel, in the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper. The first edition of this 'eerie case of multiple murder on a stormbound ranch' from American mystery writer Helen Reilly. This is one of Reilly's many novels to feature Inspector Christopher McKee, head of the fictitious Manhattan Homicide Squad.Published the year of her death, this was Reilly's final novel. With the former owner's inscription 'Audrey Bouverie' to the front free endpaper. Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie was an extravagant socialite and renowned beauty of the Edwardian period. Impeccably connected, Pleydell-Bouverie was also the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII, and rumoured to be a lover of King Edward VIII. A sparkling figure of fashionable society, her friends included Nancy Mitford, Coco Chanel, Winston Churchill, and Fred Astaire. This work is from the sale of Pleydell-Bouverie"s library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire. She purchased the home in 1940, redesigning the interior and amassing an impressive library, featuring many examples of her own bookbinding. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price clipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with light shelf wear to back strip head. Former owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Light marks to rear wrap of dust wrapper, otherwise bright and in excellent condition. First gathering loosely held only. Otherwise firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Good.
