Exceptional early first American edition of Rudyard Kiplings The Days Work, published by Doubleday & McClure Co., New York, in 1898 preceding the British edition by several weeks. Bound in the original textured dark green cloth with striking black-stamped Viking ship design and bright gilt lettering to front board and spine. Decorative ruled borders remain crisp and attractive. Top edge gilt. Deckled pages.

A remarkably well-preserved copy with strong visual appeal and unusually clean interior pages for its age. Features the original illustrated frontispiece protected by its original tissue guard along with additional full-page illustrations throughout. Binding remains tight, square, and secure with firm hinges and no loose pages. Minor wear and light fraying at spine ends and corners consistent with age. Slight rubbing and tiny areas of cracking near gutters. Previous owner inscription dated June 1920 on front free endpaper. No foxing, highlighting, or other markings noted.

An increasingly desirable Kipling first edition in handsome collectible condition with excellent shelf presence.
