Maritain's work on epistemology. He argues there are different kinds and order of knowledge. Within these, there are different degrees determined by what it is that is to be known, and how much abstraction is to be used for knowing it. Maritain distinguishes between rational knowledge, knowledge in science and philosophy, and super-rational knowledge, or knowledge in faith and mystic matters.
