About this Item
1637 1ed RARE Scottish Poetry Jon Scotstarvit Florentius Volusenus SCOTLAND Delitiae Delitiae Poetarum Scotorum is an impressive, mid-17th-century collection of Scottish poetry. Sir John Scot of Scotstarvit was a notable Scottish politician who had been collecting ancient Scottish poetry, and in 1620 he commissioned Arthur Johnston to edit these works and publish them as one complete anthology. Over the course of the next 17 years, Johnston carefully collected these poems and many others into what became Delitiae . This 1637 first edition includes poetry of previously unknown Scottish poets including David Kinloch, Andrew Melvin, Adam Regius, John Rosa, Hercules Rollocus, Jon Scotstarvit himself, and Florentius Volusenus.
