Bright dust jacket designed by LSW has a couple of closed tears, shallow chips along rear top edge, not price clipped (2.50 on front inside flap); enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. The story of a particular staircase of one section of a block of flats in a London suburb. Eight families had to use this common staircase, but so shy and unsociable were they that they avoided each other like a lot of porcupines. One day there was a fire on the first floor. Amid the pandemonium and danger they soon became acquainted--and with varied and dramatic consequence.
