Designing your Garden (The Time-Life Gardener's Guide)

Garden design is largely a matter of organizing space. Each part of a garden serves a distinct purpose. The front yard must look attractive, but it also must provide access to the house. The backyard calls for a sense of seclusion; it is where a family spends private time. The lawn and beds are the foundations for plantings - grasses, ground covers, shrubs and flowers. Walls, arbors and pools are structural accents; they separate one part of the garden from another and provide background for the plantings.
