Add to basket84 pages though not paginated, well illustrated, a stapled book produced by the St Lucia Government's Ministry of Education & Health to mark Development Day, May 1st-2nd, 1971. Foreword by Hon Hunter J Francois, Minister of Education & Health. No credits given for compilation or editing. Contains a large number of articles and features which reflect the history, culture and development of the island. Historically at the beginning, "The Story of St Lucia" by B H (Bertie) Easter, a leading historian; "St Lucia's Constitutional Development" by John H Pilgrim, another writer of note; "Archaeology of St Lucia" by Father Charles Jesse, another highly respected writer; and "Education in St Lucia" by M Thomas, gives excellent background. Culture is then covered by "Drama; "St Lucian Music" by Joyce Auguste; a poem entitled "Yo trois rois de l'eau"; "Two St Lucian Poets" by the artist Dunstan St Omer (the two being Hunter Francois, Minister of E&H, and the famous Derek Walcott, on whom there is much). Development is then covered by features on agriculture, tourism, housing, communications, telephones, industrialization, education, electricity. "Painting" by Dunstan St Omer, describes some of the early islands artists, including Warwick Walcott, father of Derek. "A St Lucian Folk Tale" continues the cultural segment, followed by "Creole Proverbs, Maxims etc" by Jones Mondesir. The final few pages are on the island's religions: "The Roman Catholic Church" by Charles Gachet, Bishop of Castries; "A Brief History of the Anglican Church in St Lucia" by Archdeacon Harold Stead; "The Methodist Church" by Rev Errol C Wiltshire; and the unattributed "History of the Seven-Day Adventist Church, from 1890-1970". Front cover and, to a lesser extent, the rear cover a little soiled; corners a little worn; internally a few marks; a very slight inclination to foxing on a few pages; some oxidation to the staples; close to good in general though a little tired.
