Die Studie untersucht die Formen, Funktionalitat und Relevanz von binnensprachlichen Variationsphanomenen im schwabischen Dialektraum anhand der Sprachgebrauchspraktiken in einer neunten Klasse eines Gymnasiums in Ulm. Im Mittelpunkt stehen der Gebrauch koexistenter sprachlicher Formen mit unterschiedlicher Nahe oder Distanz zu den Polen Standard und Dialekt des sprachlichen Kontinuums und daraus ableitbare Hinweise auf die Varietatentektonik im untersuchten Sprachraum. Durch die Kombination von quantitativ und qualitativ orientierten Analyseverfahren werden die Zusammenhange von formalen Mustern und funktionalen Moglichkeiten von Sprachvariation greifbar gemacht. Dabei wird deutlich, dass der variative Gebrauch der sprachlichen Formen bei den untersuchten Sprechern strukturiert ist und als interaktionskonstitutive linguistische Ressource in Bezug zu unterschiedlichen situativen Kommunikationsanforderungen an die Lehrer und Schuler steht.
