First edition, first printings of Harold Nicolson's definitive three-volume 'Diaries and Letters' set, published sequentially in 1966, 1967, and 1968, edited by Nigel Nicolson. Hardbacks in original dust jackets, globally graded as Near Fine books inside Near Fine jackets. The books are crisp, tight, and square with bright cloth and clean internal text blocks. The complete dust jackets are price-clipped but remain fresh and vivid, now beautifully preserved and housed in clear, removable archival protective covers. Significantly, this set is uniquely paired with a Very Good companion copy of Nicolson's famous Penguin Special S47, 'Why Britain is at War', a true first edition, first printing bearing 'First Published November 1939' to the copyright page. This specific historical text is directly cross-referenced and discussed within Volume 1 of the Diaries, mapping out Nicolson's urgent wartime political efforts and his lightning-fast drafting process commissioned by Allen Lane. An exceptional, collector-grade literary and political association set documenting the inner circles of twentieth-century British history and the Bloomsbury group. Free UK domestic postage. Octavo. Three volumes hardback plus one volume paperback. Volume 1: 448 pages. Volume 2: 511 pages. Volume 3: 448 pages. Penguin Special S47: 160 pages. Store description
I have collected books most of my life. My collection has reduced now to about 4,000 items. I list a few more as time goes by! It is difficult sometimes to allow old friends to move on. Of course, they can find fresh enthusiasm from their new owners. No matter how many items you handle, there's always excitement and interest. It is vital however that my items are described accurately and I would hope to offer good value. If you see something that you feel is 'too high' for your pocket, don't hesitate to make me an offer. I try to keep the postage costs down, and within the United Kingdom this will be free. Posting abroad will be competitive, and often I will not ask for additional amounts if this is viable. But weight of items is the deciding factor. I will add images to my descriptions, and I hope that the combination will help you to decide. Regardless, always double check or take time to contact me for further information, or merely just to clarify a point. Ask for more images. If I can reduce anything I will do so. If you purchase more than one item, then offering a decent discount is likely. If items are not as described or you have a valid problem with any item, then I am happy to make a full or partial refund. This will be in line with all Statutory guidelines e.g returning the book in the condition it was delivered, and do let me know as quickly as possible. If damage has occurred then try to provide images. Ring me on 01352-810931…
