2 vols. index, liv, 349, 368p. Rebound in contemporary leather. Marbled endpapers and page edges. 22cm. Front cover joint on each volume starting to split. Ends of backstrip, corners and edges rubbed. Works issued by the Hakluyt Society, Nos. LXVI (66) and LXVII (67). Cocks served as head of the East India Trading Post in Japan beteen 1613 and 1623 He kept a diary, quite a bit of which survived and here appears as edited by t. Thompson. Cocks was replaced in 1623 and the East India Company post (or factory) in Japan was closed. Cocks died on the return voyage to Britain.
