About this Item
First published in 1893 as a new and original illustrated edition with Lord Braybrooke's notes and edited with additions by Henry B Wheatley. Ten volumes including an index volume and a volume on Pepysiana; volumes 1-3 published in 1893, 4 in 1894, 5 and 6 in 1895, 7 and 8 in 1896 and 9 and 10 in 1899. Blue cloth hardcovers with gilt titles and decorations on spine, and no significant cover wear except volume 8 has very thin white mark on front, and Pepysiana has a 2cm indentation in spine. Each book is illustrated with several full page plates and a frontispiece with tissue guard, and some spotting mostly confined to tissue guards. Samuel Pepys, Clerk of the Acts and Secretary to the Admiralty, transcribed from the shorthand manuscript in the Pepsyian Library Magdalene College, Cambridge by the Rev. Mynors Bright. Generally clean interiors with owner's plate/shield inside front cover - John Edmond Balfour, Colonel in The King's Hussars who fought in the Second Boer War. Ten volumes set published between 1893 and 1899 and varying from very good to near fine condition. Seller Inventory # 000370
