An amusing collaboration of ex-military veterans, presenting their experience of slang in the British army, navy and air force between 1939 and 1945. This work is presented in original publisher's red cloth binding, in original unclipped dust wrapper. The first edition of this work. This humorous piece of work was created as a result of the collaboration of three ex-military servicepeople. Eric Partridge was a lexicographer who served in the Army Education Corps and the RAF correspondence department during World War Two. Patridge edited the work. Frank Roberts contributed his knowledge of army slang and Wilfred Granville presented naval slang from their careers. This work contains a list of this slang, described as vivid, allusive and sometimes obscure. With a foreword and introduction by the editor. Original publisher's advertisements to rear of dust wrapper. In original publisher's red cloth binding and original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally generally smart, with minor shelf wear only. Damp staining to cover. Bright colour to cloth. The occasional spotting to endpapers. Dust wrapper is unclipped and in very good condition. Age toning to dust wrapper, particularly to spine.
