Add to basketA smart first edition of this wartime gardening book from British gardener Cecil Henry Middleton, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. First edition. Very scarce work. With the vanishingly scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. "The harder we dig for victory the sooner will the roses be with us." A collection of the author's broadcast talks delivered in wartime between September 1941 to May 1942. They are full of useful hints on growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables at home during these critical times. Written by Cecil Henry Middleton, a British gardener, writer and one of the earliest radio and television broadcasters on gardening for the BBC. Middleton broadcast in Britain during the 1930s and 40s, especially in relation to the "Dig for Victory" campaign during the Second World War. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light wear and minor sunning to the spine. The odd small closed tear to the panel edges with sympathetic reinforcements with tape made to the internal side. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light spotting to the fore-edge with pencil inscriptions to the rear pastedown. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper. Very Good Indeed.
