Digital Photogrammetry, Volume I: Background, Fundamentals, Automatic Orientation Procedures

Photogrammetry and cats share a common, most important trait: both have several lives. The end of photogrammetry has been predicted several times. For example, with the emergence of GPS in the eighties, some saw a rapid end of photogrammetry and surveying. Others are convinced that photogrammetry will submerge with computer vision or computer graphics. Pundits of platform orientation systems predict a partial end – aerial triangulation is a thing of the past. Despite these bleak prospects, I, for myself, think that photogrammetry is very much alive – digital photogrammetry excites researchers and practitioners alike. It offers a great potential to solve existing tasks more effectively. Equally important, new problems can be tackled.
