Heptinstall, for Henry Mortlock at the Ph?nix in St. Paul's Church-Yard in 1696 this is the first Edition of this Christian Theological work about Jesus Christ and Atonement, bound in an old full leather binding, 7.5 inches tall approx., 375 pages plus a 46 page preface and errata page, book is divided into two parts with the second part carrying its own title page with a continuous pagination, the binding has some noticeable signs of wear, cracking to both joints, boards attached by binding cords only, some loss to the leather with some loss and rubbing wear, internally front two blank endpapers nearly detached with some creasing, staining to rear endpapers, else text block nice and clean Edward Stillingfleet (17 April 1635 ? 27 March 1699) was a British theologian and scholar. A Fellow of St John's college, Cambridge, Stillingfleet became Archdeacon of London in 1677, Dean of St Pauls in 1678 and Bishop of Worcester in 1689 Considered an outstanding preacher as well as a strong polemical writer defending Anglicanism, Stillingfleet was known as the beauty of holiness for his good looks in the pulpit, and was called by John Hough the ablest man of his time.
