On the Distribution of Temperature in the Lower Region of the Earth's Atmosphere.

Printed self-wrappers bound into later tan cloth. 4to. 58pp. Folding chart. First edition of this work by the Irish physicist. Hennessy was remarkable for his versatile interests and scientific ingenuity. In his earliest paper, published when he was nineteen, he proposed using photography for the registration of barometric and thermometric readings. In other papers he wrote about the fluid origins of the earth and planets, laws regulating the distribution of temperature in islands, the Gulf Stream, a decimal system of weighs and measures founded on the length of the polar axis of the earth and much more. The chart at the end of this work shows Synthermal Lines of the Earth". A very good copy with some light creasing to the text. There is a small paper repair to the verso of the title and the left margin of the last page of text and a small ink number at the top of the first page. The folding chart is lightly creased. The cloth binding is very good with light wear. The front blank has the ownership signature of Yale professor and climate science pioneer, Barry Saltzman. Scarce.…
