A fine, well preserved copy of the last in Paul Scott's four volume sequence of novels, known as the Raj Quartet, which covers the last years of British rule in India. The brown cloth-bound boards are unmarked and there are no scratches or dents; all edges are straight, but one of the corners (front, bottom) has a slight bump or compaction; the other three corners are all sharp. There is the hint of a fold or crease in the spine panel. The text block is square and tightly bound and there are no spots or marks of any kind on its top and fore edges; there is a very small area of shelf wear on the bottom edge. Internally, the pages are all bright, clean and spotless except for a previous re-sale price lightly written in pencil on the ffep. The dust jacket retains its original gloss and is in a protective cover. The lettering and coloured illustrations are all bright, strong and without any fading. There is a very small kink or crease on the top left of the spine panel near the fold with the back panel, but there are no other marks and no chips, tears or cuts; the publisher's price (£4.90) is still in place.
