London, Scientific Publishing Co. Ltd., 1911 and 1912. Quarto, 1152 pages with numerous illustrations and pictorial advertisements. Contemporary binder's cloth (lettered in gilt on the spine) a little worn at the bottom corners, with a few short tears to the head and foot of the spine; tiny sealed tear to the top margin of the first three leaves; top corner of one issue (May 1912) creased throughout before binding; in very good condition (internally excellent). The preamble to the first issue of this journal includes the following observation: 'there is no reason why the man of business, from the lowliest employee to the controller of the house, should not see something in life away from the groove of calculating particles. It is the mission of "Dixon's Monthly" to teach of a new knowledge which will do this'. The self-congratulations at the beginning of the last issue in this first volume run to three pages (pages 1059-61).
