Dombey and Son, London: Bradbury and Evans, 1848.Octavo, first book edition, pp. xvi, 2 (errata), 626, marbled boards half-bound in black calf with gilt lettering and devices to spine, frontispiece and vignette title page, lacking the half-title called for by Walter Smith, 36 illustrated plates by H.K. Browne or "Phiz" (2 plates are missing -- "Miss Tox introduces the party" and "The Dombey family" -- and 1 plate is hand-colored). A very early printing, with 65 of the 73 internal flaws identified by Smith, and only 2 lines on the errata page.Condition of this book:Plates browned, as is typical of this book, text leaves relatively bright, with sporadic soiling and edge tears. Front joint starting, covers edge-worn, gilt faded, binding weak but sound; overall fair. Shipments outside the U.S. may be subject to local taxes. Size: Octavo (standard book size).
