8°. XVI, 624 S. mit radierten Frontispiz, rad. illustr. Titel u. 38 Radierungen. Ldr. d. Zt. mit goldgepr. Rückenschild mit reicher Rückenverg., Deckelfiletten, Innenkantenverg. u. marm. Schnitt Zweite Buchausgabe, die erste Ausgabe erschien 1848 bei Bradbury and Evans. - Mit der Tafel "On the dark road" (gegenüber S. 547); in den Zeilen 5 und 6 von unten auf S. 284 jeweils "Delight" statt "Joy" (Eckel 74); S. 324 (letzte Zeile) hier mit dem korrigierten Druckfehler "Captain" statt "Capatin" in der ersten Ausgabe. - Der engl. Künstler H. K. Browne (1815-1882) traf Charles Dickens im Frühjahr 1836, als dieser einen Illustrator für Die Pickwickier suchte. Eine seiner Radierungen signierte Browne mit dem Pseudonym "Phiz", weil er fand das es gut mit dem Pseudonym "Boz" von Ch. Dickens harmonierte. Die bekanntesten von Phiz illustrierten Bücher von Dickens sind David Copperfield, Die Pickwickier, Dombey und Sohn, Martin Chuzzlewit und Bleak House. - Rücken etwas berieben, vord. Gelenk unauffällig restauriert, Vorsätze etwas braunfleckig, sehr schönes sauberes und dekorativ gebundenes Exemplar. Sprache: englisch. Seller Inventory # 103830BB
