Dutch Moderne: Graphic Design from Destijl to Deco

Despite Holland's small size, its contribution to twentieth-century avant-garde design has been profound. The first English-language book to document the elegant typography and streamlined imagery representative of Dutch art moderne between the two world wars, many previously unpublished in the United States, this exquisite volume showcases over 200 graphic design motifs from the Netherlands representing cultural as well as commercial concerns. From packaging and advertising to magazines and trademarks--as interesting for their social, political, and historical significance as they are graphically appealing--this colorful examination of how a brief artistic movement has contributed to a national style will make a welcome addition to the design bookshelf.
