Circa 1890, first edition, previous owners neat dedication on opening endpaper ''L. N. Hayes from her husband November, 1895''. Original pictorial boards slightly rubbed and faded with time consistent with age but remain firm and intact. 36 clean and bright pages illustrated throughout by Harry Payne and Arthur Payne, 3 of the illustrations are slightly damaged in the center from the tissue guards (The worst of these is shown on the 3rd Image provided), all tissue guards are within but are at the rear of the book, some pages are loose and others becoming loose. Boards are slightly rubbed and faded with time and bumped on the corners but remain firm and intact, gilt edges all round. Usual toning and age appreciation should be expected. A rare book.
