The first edition of this important and uncommon work.Illustrated with twenty-three plates, eleven of which show floorplans.Collated, complete.Considered to be Roberts' most important publication, this work presents architectural plans and elevations of actual and proposed dwellings for labourers, including workers' cottages and lodgings for unmarried labourers.An important work on philanthropic housing, published for the Society for Improving the Condition of the Labouring Classes, and with much consideration placed on healthy living standards. For the Society, Roberts designed a number of buildings that represented innovations in workers' housing, including the houses in Lower Road, Pentonville, London and the famous model dwellings in Streatham Street, Bloomsbury.Bookplate to the front paste down. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart.A small amount of loss and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A couple of small chips to the joints. Minor rubbing and marks to the boards and spine, marks a little heavier to the fore edge of the rear board. Dampstain to the tail of the front board.
