Pp. xiv+136, 55 plates (12 coloured, of which 8 are hand-tipped onto blue backing sheets, the frontispiece with lettered tissue guard), bibliography, index; med. 4to; qr. cream cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, maroon buckram boards, a trifle warped, corners faintly rubbed, slight bruise at foot of spine; t.e.g., others uncut; dust wrapper, lightly soiled and worn, with a couple of small damp stains, edges creased and silverfished, with a few small tears, the backstrip browned; small chip at centre of upper hinge, scattered light foxing; Geoffrey Bles, London, 1926. First edition. *Maiolica, or tin-glazed pottery with painted decoration, is famous as one of the most beautiful manifestations of Italian art in the period of the Renaissance. It is not generally known, however, that the craft was carried by Italians to the Netherlands, and there developed a vigorous and independent style of its own' [wrapper blurb].
