First printing of this charming story of the multitudes that can be contained in a fluffy rug, with the right amount of imagination. Allen Say, born in Yokohama, Japan in 1937, dreamed of becoming an artist from a young age. Before entering the world of children's book illustration, Say worked as a sign-painter and as a photographer, his skills behind the lens landing him a spot in the military newspaper STARS AND STRIPES. He illustrated his first children's book in 1972, and has earned a Caldecott Medal and a Caldecott Honor, among other accolades; Say's work is often based on personal experiences or the stories of family members, and his illustrations are noted for merging "the real and the surreal in his books, using photographs, pen-and-ink sketches, and watercolor paintings to illustrate them" (Oregon Encyclopedia). 11.25'' x 9.25''.
