Octavo (19.25cm); mustard yellow cloth, with titling and decorative elements stamped in navy blue on spine and front panel; dustjacket; xii,315,[1]pp, with frontispiece and two black & white illustrations by Sydney Seymour Lucas. Base of spine gently nudged, touch of dust-soil to upper edge of textblock, with some faint finger-soil to margins of the title page and a few internal leaves; Near Fine. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $2.00), with a small tear to upper rear panel, else a bright, very Near Fine example. A novel involving a young British stage actress who is put on trial and convicted of murder, and her fellow actor, Sir John Saumarez, who takes up her cause and tries to prove her innocence. Basis for the 1930 film Murder! directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Herbert Marshall and Norah Baring. Hubin, p.107.
