This is the First Edition of this scarce work that possibly had an influence on Shropshire author Mary Webb, this little-known novel by Lady C. Milnes Gaskell, Episodes in the Lives of a Shropshire Lass and Lad, published in 1908, the book was never reprinted and is now hard to find. The story is set in the late 1700s and early 1800s at Wilderhope Manor, and the countryside around Wenlock Edge, and Much Wenlock in Shropshire, involving a gipsy mother and daughter on the run who are taken in at Wilderhope, and become servants in the Manor House, the story is set across a good number of years and occupies a similar world to the Mary Webb novels Precious Bane and Seven for a Secret . it has been noted that Mary was influenced by the writings of Mrs Gaskell. The book is bound in the original green cloth titled in gilt to the spine, some marks to the cloth along with some edge bumps, internally endpapers browned, an impressed horizontal crease to opening few pages, creasing to a few page corners else contents in good general condition.
