In 1886, when football was in its infancy, a group of workers at the Woolwich Arsenal formed a team called Dial Square. Dial Square rapidly became Royal Arsenal and then Woolwich Arsenal, who arrived at Highbury just before the First World War. Success was elusive until Herbert Chapman took over as manager in 1926 and turned Arsenal into the finest team of the 1930s, winning two FA Cups and five league titles. It was not until the late 1960s that another outstanding side emerged at Highbury, under manager Bertie Mee, and claimed the Fairs Cup in 1970 and the `Double' in 1971. George Graham in the late 1980s and 1990s brought honours back to the club but the current regime of Arsine Wenger has established Arsenal as arguably the most talented and exciting team in British football.
