An exquisite group of illustrations of front covers and spines of finely-bound books by the renowned English bookbinder.A total of sixty-nine full-page examples, many in full-color or in half-tone. Robert Riviere (1808-1882) was an English bookbinder of French descent. He started business in Bath in 1829, moved to London in 1840. The firm's bindings can be dated as follows: "Bound by R. Riviere, Bath" means 1829-32; "Bound by R. Riviere" means 1832-40; "Bound by Riviere" means 1840-c.1880; "Bound by Riviere and Son" means after 1880. The firm was purchased by the heirs of George Bayntun, returned b to Bath, where it remains to this day producung fine bindings on Manvers Street. Size: Quarto. Seller Inventory # 012936
