First edition. The last and the pleasantest of Smollett's novels, an epistolary road story. A mixed state (no known priority), mostly showing variants of Warburton, et al. A1 and A2; volume 1: title page misdated MDCLXXI, all signature marks set in lower case type, letter dated "Aug. 4" on page v, page vi correctly numbered, "respected sir" and "your . servant" on page ix, "Mrs. Gwyllim" on page 3 (as per A4, the Rothschild copy), page 147 correctly numbered; volume 2: "flag," page 2, line 3 and last word "this," page 2, line 7.
