Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Oversized hardcover. Bound in full leather. This is an old, primitive, binding: Brown leather over thick boards. Spine blank. Long, hand-stitched (Frankenstein-esque) repair to leather along one large corner (both front and back cover). Binding unadorned & very much the product of Yankee thrift at the turn of the 18th century. Very faint writing on the inside front cover where I can make out the dates 1805, 1877, and the name James Gill--. No title page or frontismaterial. First page present is the note "To Family Governors, particularly those of my charge." That two page address is signed W. Burkitt. Next section is "A Prayer before the Reading of the Holy Scriptures." Then comes Expository Notes, &c upon the Gospel according to St. Matthew." Pages numbered 8-1168. Without the title page, I have only been able to identify this book as the New Haven edition of 1794 by the page numbers matching the other copy on ABE at the time of listing. Pages toned and faded from age. Pages 489-584 are a bit sprung from the binding, but still held in by two cords - and so while they protrude from the foreedge, they are still secure. Page 585/586 is torn in half vertically and the outer half is missing. The name John Gilliland signed on the inside back cover. Text in English. Exposition of the entire New Testament from Matthew to Revelations. Measures 9 x 10.5 inches. Please email with questions or to request photos. Seller Inventory # XXI-41
