First Edition. Hardback. No Dust Jacket. 8vo. pp 312, 32. Original publisher's red cloth, lettered gilt on spine and brown on the front cover. Emily Gerard (1849–1905) was a nineteenth-century author best known for the influence her collections of Transylvanian folklore had on Bram Stoker's Dracula. Printed dedication is a verse to Mark Twain. Gerard spent much of her life in Austria, where she met and befriended Mark Twain Soundly rebacked with an archival repair at spine (which was splitting at centre and top edge but now in good order), a few marks and slight wear to covers, otherwise sound, near very good with clean text.
