A wonderful first edition volume on early English water colours, with illustrations and colour frontispiece. First edition copy of this work.Within this charming volume, there has been much attention paid to the minor artists that were using watercolour. The book is concerned with English drawings in watercolour from their first production in England up to about the time of those artists who were born in the early 1880s.The chapters are largely chronological and start with watercolours of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. There are two-hundred plates to the rear of the volume and a colour frontispiece by Joseph Mallord William Turner. Other artists included in this volume are William Blake and John Constable.Collated, complete.From the Ascott House library, owned by the de Rothschild family. The library was created following the conversion of the billiards room in 1936 and was predominantly filled with books collected by Anthony de Rothschild. In the publisher's original cloth binding.
